چکیده

Preface Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be what Thou art promis'd. Yet do I fear thy nature: : : This report documents the Glamis methodology for performance modelling and analysis of parallel systems as it has been developed up to this moment. Glamis (GeneraLised Architecture Modelling wIth Stochastic techniques) stands for a combined parallel machine and program modelling formalism with associated analysis methods and tool support, based on closed queueing networks. The name Glamis was inspired on Glamis Castle, situated near a small village of the same name in the Scottish district Angus, Tayside region, approx. 12 miles north of Dundee. The methodology also derives its pronunciation from the castle, viz. (in phonetic transcription) gla:mz]. Glamis Castle can look back on a long, and not always peaceful, history, which is strongly connected with Scottish and English royalty. King Malcolm II of Scotland was allegedly murdered there in 1034. Glamis Castle, originally from the 11th century, became the seat of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne in 1372. The Old Pretender, son of James VII of Scotland, II of England, lodged at the castle in 1715. Mary Queen of Scots, perhaps better known as Bloody Mary, occupied the place and later paid it several visits. Also in the more recent history of Great Britain's royal family the castle has played a role: Queen Elizabeth II and her mother spent their childhood at the castle, and Princess Margaret was born there. Many legends are told in relation to Glamis Castle, some of which have been described in the works of famous British writers. A ghost is said to haunt the castle, preserving the lion-cup, which is mentioned by Sir Walter Scott 18], who once called Glamis (before its modernisation) \by far the noblest specimen of the real feudal castle that had yet come under his inspection." But the place undoubtedly owes most of its fame to William Shakespeare's work 19]: Macbeth was Thane of Glamis before he became King of Scotland, and according to tradition (not history) Duncan's Hall, the oldest complete portion of the castle, is the place where he murdered King Duncan in 1040. The castle also encloses a secret room, where the Lords of Glamis and \Tiger" Earl of Crawford are said to have played cards with the Devil himself on Sabbath. This worried the residents so much that they sealed the room permanently. We will now …

Queueing Models of Parallel Applications: The Glamis Methodology

In the development of e cient parallel applications, reliable performance predictions are essential. We present a methodology for performance modelling of parallel processing systems (Glamis), based on...

Predicting the performance of general task

The Glamis methodology provides a framework for performance modelling of parallel applications, based on a combination of task graph models and queueing network models. This paper presents a new, moderately cheap algorithm which enables the analysis of arbitrary task graph models of parallel programs with general precedence relationships, given a queueing model of the underlying machine. The al...

Thrombin Generation in the Glasgow Myocardial Infarction Study

BACKGROUND Thrombin is a key protease in coagulation also implicated in complex pathology including atherosclerosis. To address the role of thrombin in relation to myocardial infarction (MI) we explored thrombin generation analysis in plasma from patients and controls that had participated in the Glasgow MI Study (GLAMIS). METHODS Thrombin generation at 1 and 2 pM TF and with and without thro...

Queueing systems and networks . Models and applications

This article describes queueing systems and queueing networks which are successfully used for performance analysis of different systems such as computer, communications, transportation networks and manufacturing. It incorporates classical Markovian systems with exponential service times and a Poisson arrival process, and queueing systems with individual service. Oscillating queueing systems and...
